How we handle visitor data.

The Property Tax Almanac is a reference site. We don't sell products, don't take user accounts, and don't collect personal information directly. What we do use — analytics and advertising cookies — is explained plainly here, along with the controls you have to opt out.

The short version

We use Google Analytics to count pageviews and Google AdSense to display ads. Both use cookies. Neither requires you to give us your name, email, or any other personal information — nor do we ask for it. You can turn off personalized advertising through the links below, and you can block cookies entirely in your browser settings. Nothing on this site is gated behind consent, and no functionality breaks if you decline cookies.

What we collect directly

Almost nothing. We do not operate user accounts, comment sections, contact forms that store data, mailing lists, or e-commerce. The only way you'd hand us anything directly is by sending an email to [email protected] — in which case we retain that message as long as needed to reply, and no longer.

Property values you type into the calculators on county pages never leave your browser. They are used to compute an estimate on the page and are not transmitted to us, stored server-side, or shared with any third party.

What third parties collect on our behalf

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages readers visit, how they arrived, and roughly how long they stay. Google Analytics sets cookies that record a pseudonymous identifier, the pages you view, and standard technical information (browser, operating system, coarse geographic region derived from IP address). We have configured Analytics to anonymize IP addresses where supported. We use this data only in aggregate — to decide which counties to add next, which pages need editorial work, and whether the site is technically healthy.

Google's own privacy practices for Analytics are described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can install Google's official Analytics opt-out browser add-on to prevent your visits from being counted in any Google Analytics property.

Google AdSense and third-party advertisers

This site is ad-supported. Ads are served by Google AdSense (publisher ID ca-pub-5029685470831631) and, through Google's ad exchange, by third-party advertising partners.

You should know the following about how AdSense and its partners work:

  • Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • Third-party vendors and ad networks may also use cookies to serve ads to you on this site. You can opt out of many of these networks at once through the industry pages at aboutads.info/choices (Digital Advertising Alliance) or youronlinechoices.eu (EU).

The full text of Google's advertising policies is at policies.google.com/technologies/ads. We do not control what individual ads are shown to you, and we do not receive personally identifiable information about you from Google's ad system.

Cookies and how to control them

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. On this site they are used for the analytics and advertising purposes described above — not for site functionality, remembering preferences, or anything you would notice missing if they were disabled.

Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. Instructions:

Blocking cookies will not break any part of this site. Ads may still appear, but they will be non-personalized (based only on the page you are reading, not on any prior browsing).

If you live in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data about you, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests or direct marketing. Because we collect essentially no personal data directly, most of these rights are best exercised with Google — the party actually holding advertising and analytics data — through Google's account controls and Ads Settings.

Before ads are served to visitors from the EEA and UK, Google's Consent Management Platform ("Funding Choices") will ask for your consent to personalized advertising. You can withdraw that consent at any time using the Privacy settings or Consent link that Google's consent tool exposes on the page.

If you live in California

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected about them, to request its deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We do not sell personal information for money. However, under California's broad definition, the use of third-party advertising cookies described above may qualify as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising. To opt out, use Google Ads Settings to disable personalized ads and enable the Global Privacy Control signal in your browser — we and our advertising partners honor GPC as a valid opt-out signal.

Children under 13

This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Google's advertising system similarly requires publishers to not direct ads to child audiences. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided information to us, contact us and we will delete it.

Data security and retention

Because we collect virtually no data directly, there is little for us to secure or retain. The site is a static publication served by Cloudflare Pages over HTTPS. We do not maintain a database, an admin panel, or user accounts. Email correspondence with us is stored in a standard consumer email provider and deleted when no longer useful. Server access logs kept by our hosting provider (Cloudflare) are retained per Cloudflare's own policy.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site or its ad partners change. Material changes will be reflected in the "Effective" date at the top of this page. Because the site does not have user accounts, we cannot notify you individually — you're welcome to bookmark this page and revisit it if you want to see what has changed.

How to contact us

Questions, opt-out requests, GDPR/CCPA rights requests, or complaints should be directed to [email protected]. We aim to reply within a reasonable time. This site is an independent editorial publication and is not affiliated with any government agency, tax assessor, or tax preparation service.

About this site's data and estimates. The Property Tax Almanac is an independent editorial reference. It is not affiliated with any government agency, tax assessor, or tax preparation service. The calculators and data on this site are informational and are not a substitute for advice from a qualified tax professional, attorney, or your official county assessor or appraisal district.

Accuracy, sources, and scope. Tax rate data is compiled from publicly available sources — including the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance, the Illinois Department of Revenue, the Florida Department of Revenue, the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury, the Arizona Department of Revenue, the North Carolina Department of Revenue, the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, the Michigan Department of Treasury, the Iowa Department of Revenue and Iowa Department of Management, the Minnesota Department of Revenue, the California State Board of Equalization, individual county appraisal and assessor offices, and the US Census Bureau — and is believed to be accurate as of the "revised" date shown on each page. Rates change annually (and sometimes mid-year) through local budget adoptions, legislative action, and voter-approved measures. Rates displayed reflect the primary tax district of the county seat; rates in other cities, school districts, Municipal Utility Districts (MUDs), Emergency Services Districts (ESDs), Mello-Roos Community Facilities Districts (CFDs), and special taxing units within the same county may be meaningfully higher or lower. Census population figures are from the 2020 Decennial Census and are rounded to the nearest 100.

How to use these estimates. The calculator produces a rough estimate based on the county seat's combined rate, statutory deductions and exemptions available statewide, and the value you enter. Your actual bill depends on your specific parcel's assessed or appraised value, the exact taxing entities covering your address, any local-option exemptions you qualify for, any assessment caps or circuit-breaker protections (e.g., Florida's Save Our Homes, Arizona's Prop 117 LPV cap, Indiana's 1% circuit breaker, North Carolina's Elderly/Disabled Exclusion, Wisconsin's Lottery & Gaming Credit, Michigan's Proposal A 5%/IRM cap, Iowa's residential rollback, Minnesota's Homestead Market Value Exclusion, California's Proposition 13 acquisition-value system and 2% annual cap), and any appeal or protest outcomes. For an authoritative figure, consult your county appraisal district (Texas), county assessor (Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, Arizona, North Carolina, Iowa, Minnesota, California), county property appraiser (Florida), or municipal/township assessor (Wisconsin and Michigan — assessments are set at the city/village/township level rather than the county level; some Iowa and Minnesota cities also have city-level assessors). The contact information for the primary authority in each county is listed at the top of that county's page.
